Wichita Mountains Hike

We decided to take the quick trip over to the Wichita Mountains (near Lawton) for a little hike to try to break in our hiking shoes and also for fun. The day was mild, a bit overcast but the perfect temp for hiking. We got down there about lunch time so we had to stop by Meers and eat a yummy hamburger. I haven't been there in quite awhile, probably before I stopped paying for/eating non-humanely raised meats. So it was a pleasant surprise to find out that they raise their own long horns and that they are grass fed! Mike of course said that he knew this already but he didn't bother to say anything to me about it! Anyway, it was delicious.

After a full meal (complete with peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream) we headed off to the trails. Along the way we saw lots of buffalo and long horns. We stopped before the main trail to hike up to a "cave" which is actually a crevice in the side of the mountain (hill?) that you can climb up into. The kids thought it was fun. (These are the pictures where it is dark in the collage below.)

After the cave we headed over to the real trail & walked back to a little waterfall. The kids tried to lag a bit from time to time and I had to "chase" them to get them to keep up the pace. :) But overall they did really well. Isabella climbed up the side of the mountain quite a ways near the waterfall (pictured up above in the bottom right hand corner) and was pretty proud. After we made it back to the car we headed out (it would be getting dark pretty soon) but stopped by to see the prairie dogs before leaving the park (pictured in the top middle and below in bottom right hand side (Jackson on the fence).

We had lots of fun and we were glad we made the trip. We were all a bit tired and the kids slept wonderfully that night (no naps for Jackson on this day!).
